A TEAM of Chinese police officers travelled from the other side of the world to see how Greater Manchester Police do the job.

The officers came from the city of Wuhan, which has been twinned with Manchester since 1986.

After sizing up the competition at a welcome party, both the GMP and Wuhan Police teams took part in the Dragon Boat Festival at Salford Quays which was beamed live back to millions of viewers in China.

Much to their delight, the Chinese team won.

Later in the week, they visited Force HQ where they learned more about UK policing, GMP neighbourhood policing and how large events are policed.

The overall reason for the visit was to enhance the relationship between the two forces and promote law enforcement cooperation.

Consulate General Zheng Xiyaun said: "Thanks to the meticulous arrangement made by GMP over the past months, Wuhan police delegation's visit was made a great success.

"Their visit has started a new chapter in Manchester-Wuhan policing cooperation and will be highly conducive to cementing the sister relationship between the two cities for the benefit of both's citizens.”

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said the two forces were able to share ideas and added: “I look forward to working closely with the team in China and continuing to build on our relationship with them."
