MORE than 1,000 people turned out to enjoy a day of family fun at the annual Party in the Park.

The event, which was held in Openshaw Park, was packed with stalls, activities, food and entertainment.

Dozens of community groups and organisations had stalls and raised funds for their own causes, while there was also a rounders competition and a "Cake-Off" competition.

Entertainment was provided with a Zumba demonstration and the band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire).

The event was hosted by Bury East Sports Association and Ambition for Moorside and funded by Ambition for Ageing and Forever Manchester (FM awards).

The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Trevor Holt, said: “This Party in the Park has been the biggest and best yet and thankfully the weather was kind enough to hold off for the event.

"It attracted so many people of all ages and backgrounds from across the whole Bury East and has been a fantastic community event, demonstrating the community cohesion and community spirit that is so apparent in this part of the borough.”
