A MAIN road has been closed and motorists are facing tailbacks after two crashes on the borough's roads. 

The first incident happened in Heywood Road, near the junction with Rectory Lane, at around 2.50pm and involved a car and a motorbike.

Police say the driver of the car has no obvious injuries at this stage.

However the motorbike rider's condition is as yet unknown.

Heywood Road is currently closed and the fire service is on the scene.

The second incident happend in Bury New Road, near to the McDonalds, at around 3.54pm and involved a black Renault Megane and a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle ambulance are on the scene providing treatment to five people with minor injuries, a North West Ambulance spokesman said.

One person has been taken to North Manchester Hospital by ambulance.

The fire service are also at the scene dealing with "spillage from one of the vehicles", police confirmed.

A police spokesman added: "There is debris in the road causing a traffic build up.

"Anyone with any information or dashcam footage is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident reference number 1419 of 26/06/19."
