A FAMILY business is sparkling with pride after becoming one of the first in the world to be accredited under a new scheme designed to raise standards.

Cableworld Limited, which provides a wide range of electrical cables and accessories has been awarded Registered Stockist certification status from the prestigious British Approvals Service for Cables, recognised in industry as BASEC.

This relays to customers of the company, based at Wingates Industrial Estate, Westhoughton, that all their products are of the highest quality and safety.

Hinesh Vegad, business development and quality manager and his team, are delighted that their hard work to meet the stringent assessment criteria required has paid off.

“This is fantastic news for us — it is a huge achievement for a company of our size. Achieving this status demonstrates our commitment to quality,” he said.

This new industry certification scheme has been designed by BASEC to raise quality standards in the industry throughout the supply chain.

It looks at the practices and processes involved with procuring, handling and storing cable products, to ensure they are up to scratch.

Cable samples are taken away for testing to verify that they meet the standards they say they do. Most importantly, it enables enhanced market surveillance of the product before it enters the market.

It is a safety net for those sourcing cable products and ensures the quality is maintained throughout the supply chain.

Hinesh said: “To become registered involves an extremely rigorous audit above the ISO 9001: 2015 standard we already have in place.

“Maintaining our first-class standard of quality is incredibly important.”

Cableworld Limited is an independent stockist and worldwide distributor of a wide range of electrical cables and accessories to relevant international standards.

It was formed over 20 years ago by Jim Vegad, who is managing director.

He said: “We are a family business and we believe every single employee is a part of that family and a vitally important member of the team.

“Our employees’ hard work and dedication has enabled us to grow and help to achieve this latest accolade.”

The company looks after a diverse range of customers, from electrical wholesalers, contractors, end users and installers.

Its 28,000 square feet warehouse and sales office is close to the motorway network in Westhoughton. Continued growth has enabled the company to open an additional sales office in London.

Matt Palin, the head office manager, said: “Now we have become a Registered Stockist we want to work with BASEC as a strategic partner to help eradicate poor quality from the industry.

“We share the same vision, which is maintaining quality throughout every step of the supply chain.”

Chris Mason, Regional Commercial Manager UK & Europe at BASEC, added: “I am delighted to welcome Cableworld Limited as a Registered Stockist and look forward to working more closely with them.”

Hinesh said the relationship with BASEC was “great news” for customers.

He said: “We take pride in our ability to maintain a very high standard. We put the customer at the heart of everything we do.”
