FANS of two Bury parks have a chance to vote them the best in the UK.

The search is on to find the best open green space in the country.

Bury's Burrs Country Park and Walker's Field are two of 55 in the North-West nominated for The Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park 2019.

Nationwide 364 have been put forward by the local communities for the title.

Now an online public vote is under way at www.fieldsintrust.org/best-park/north-west. It closes at noon on Monday August 19.

The nomination for Burrs Country Park in Woodhill Road, says: "Burrs is a lovely place - a mixture of open spaces and woodlands, river, ponds and canal.

"It is excellent for walking, running, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, bird watching, nature study and picnicking.

"It has an excellent café and pub, and the heritage railway has a station in the park."

The nomination for Walker's Field in Chesham Road says: "Walker's Field was left to the people of Bury by Miss Walker, the daughter of a wealthy family who lived in a mansion in Chesham Woods, Bury.

"The field is very well used. It's adjacent to Clarence Park and Chesham Woods. It's a lovely area."

Fields in Trust's chief executive Helen Griffiths said: “Our parks and green space provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations."
