ALL Bury Council's 12 parks have won the coveted Green Flag as one of the UK's best green spaces for the 10th year running.

They are among 1,970 nationally to get the accolade from Keep Britain Tidy.

The successful open spaces are Bolton Road Park, Burrs Country Park, Clarence Park, Close Park, Hoyles Park, Manchester Road Park, Nuttall Park, Openshaw Park, St Mary’s Park, Town Meadow Park, Whitefield Park, and Whitehead Park.

Cllr Alan Quinn, Bury Council's environment boss, said: “This is a fantastic achievement, for all 12 of our main parks to win Green Flag status for 10 years in a row. This is a great tribute to our parks, countryside and grounds maintenance teams, and to the many volunteers, community groups, self-managed clubs and associations, and friends of parks groups who work hard to make the borough such an attractive place."

Neighbouring Bolton got just one Green Flag for he borough's Queen's Park.
