PARENTS who are profoundly deaf have thanked their daughter's drama school for providing a sign language interpreter at her summer production.

Gregory Pierssene and his wife, from Chapelford, were delighted to find out they could enjoy their daughter's performance with the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy.

Jasmine, who is six years old, was given the role of a clown in the show.

Gregory, 39, said: "Helen O’Grady Drama Academy respectfully complied with our request for a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.

"Both my wife and I are profoundly deaf and have BSL as our first language.

"This was done without question.

"The academy allowed the Interpreter, Drew Ledson, access to both rehearsal times and scripts to prepare.

"They later liaised with us about suitable seating for interpreter access and appropriate lighting so that the interpreter was clearly visible to the audience.

"On the day everything ran smoothly without the need for effort or complaint from ourselves."

Jasmine's parents said they were moved at watching their daughter perform, which has lead to Jasmine renewing her membership with the academy for a further year.

Gregory added: "Without these access arrangements, our enjoyment of the show would have been diminished, leading to our daughter being disappointed.

"We would like to praise Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and Andrea Wright with all our hearts.

"Their attitude to equality is deserving of recognition."

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy currently offers a number of classes across Warrington.
