Third Ride 4 Violet-Grace to take place tomorrow, Sunday

TOMORROW, the streets will once again be full of cyclists and motorcyclists for the third annual Ride 4 Violet-Grace, to raise funds for the two hospital that tried to save the four-year-old's life.

The tragic death of Violet-Grace Youens in March last year following a hit and run led to an outpouring of love from the St Helens community for her grief stricken family.

To remember the superhero, who saved two lives by becoming an organ donor, her proud parents Becky and Glenn, from Eccleston as well as members of the St Helens community, organised the Ride 4 Violet-Grace.

Tomorrow, Sunday, July 21, they will be doing that again, on a slightly amended route, from noon, with a funday taking place at the Totally Wicked Stadium from 10am to 3pm.

Glenn Youens, Violet's dad, said: "A lot of work goes into organising this event and the people who started it Neil, Barry, Louis and Rachel are a major part of keeping it going and it really helps us to focus on something positive in memory of Violet.

"It means so much to us that people still want to do this for Violet and remember her.

"The fun day is going to be really fun as well. We have decided to do a balloon release again, with biodegradable balloons, there will be a performance by Jack Bennett from Stillia, bouncy castle, ice cream van, face painting, children’s entertainment, DJ, raffle, organ donation tent, emergency vehicles and police dogs.

"There will also be CPR training because a very kind and brave dentist knew CPR and did his very best to try save Violet's life on that day.

"We are so thankful to him as he helped keep Violet alive until the fire service and ambulance services arrived, without him knowing CPR we might not have been able to say our final good bye to Violet or have the opportunity to donate her organs.

"Come and learn CPR on Sunday, you never know you could save someone’s life knowing it."

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW:

- All cyclists taking part must wear a helmet please, it is a requirement for the event’s insurance.

- Cyclists can be aged 10 and upwards, however under 16s must be accompanied by an adult and must be able to ride more than five miles without stopping. Alternatively, children are welcome on bike trailers (but must also wear a helmet).

- Road closures will not be in place on the day due to bike marshals along the route.

- Those taking part should head to the back of the stadium where there is a red ‘V’ bricked into the wall and sign in and pay the £5 donation needed to join.
