A BOLTON GP is celebrating the right result.

Dr Abdul Hafeez from the Al-Fal Medical Group in Pikes Lane, Deane, has won the NHS Parliamentary Award for Excellence in Primary Care in the North West.

He joined regional winners at a prestigious ceremony at the House of Commons last week.

Dr Hafeez was nominated by MP Yasmin Qureshi.

During the last year, he successfully campaigned to reduce medicine wastage within the NHS by proactively educating patients and using community TV channels for this purpose. Patient referral rates were reduced by 30 per cent and over £75,000 was saved by minimising medicine wastage.

He is passionate about providing quality healthcare worldwide and is also the Founder & CEO of Association of Pakistani Physicians and Surgeon of the UK (APPS UK).

Dr Hafeez said: “This is the second NHS Parliamentary Award to be handed out, they awards were started to make the 70th anniversary of the NHS. I felt quite humbled to have been awarded Excellence in Primary Care Award in the North West and recognised in this way. There was a ceremony at the House of Commons, to which regional winners from all over the country attended.”

He said high profile people from the NHS attended the ceremony along with MPs.

Awards were handed out in different categories, with the Bolton GP scooping the regional award including for work in mental health, urgent and accident and emergency.
