EMERGENCY services were called to a three-vehicle crash at a mini roundabout in Smithills.

It is claimed that members of the public and taxi passengers pinned down a male driver who tried to flee from the scene after two cars and a taxi collided last night.

Police and the fire service were called to the incident in Church Road at the junction with Captains Clough Road at about 10.30pm.

It is not yet known whether any arrests were made.

A number of residents in the area have previously raised road safety concerns about people driving in the street.
