OLDHAM Athletic have pulled the plug on their pre-season friendly against crisis club Bolton Wanderers, which was due to be played on Saturday, July 27.

The Latics wanted assurances from Bolton that they would have a competitive team to put out at Boundary Park – but despite a request to delay a decision for 48 hours, the League Two club have now made other plans, with Stockport County likely to step in.

It is understood Oldham have a family fun day which was centred on the game and felt they could not risk the game not going ahead.

The Whites are in administration and will start life in League One on at least minus 12 points. They have already been forced to cancel pre-season games against Chester and Preston.

A Latics club statement said: “Oldham Athletic can confirm that our pre-season fixture with Bolton Wanderers has been cancelled.

“The club have made the decision to find another opponent for Saturday’s game due to the doubt of the original fixture going ahead.

“Details of a new opposition will be released in due course along with ticket details.”

Wanderers also tweeted: “Bolton Wanderers can confirm that our arranged friendly match against Oldham will not be going ahead as scheduled on Saturday. This is at the request of the Latics, who will now take on alternative opposition.”
