A NEW development of 33 houses will go ahead at the site of a former care home as councillors gave the final plans the nod.

The homes will be constructed as modular units elsewhere in a warehouse before being delivered to the Kearsley site, where the Alderbank care home once stood.

The development, by PSP Bolton, has been compared with Bolton At Home’s social housing project, at Victory Road in Little Lever.

Cllr Sean Hornby sung the praises of the method of construction at a planning committee meeting on Thursday.

He said: “It’s an exciting prospect the way that we’re now doing these houses. It’s ticking the boxes and, not only that, we’re providing more housing for people who desperately need it in Kearsley.”

The dwellings would mostly be three-bedroom, semi-detached and terraced houses as well as four two-bedroom houses.

They will be in the form of semi-detached and small terraced rows of two-storey houses.

All of the houses will have back gardens and off-street parking for 69 vehicles.

Cllr Elaine Sherrington described the Kearsley development as one of her “dream projects” when she held the housing portfolio two years ago.

She said: “I’m really, really pleased to see that we’ve actually got to this coming to fruition and I can’t wait to see it happen.”

The developer will not make Section 106 contributions or be obliged to provide affordable houses.

Members of the planning committee unanimously approved the application.
