Wanderers’ opening day game at Wycombe on Saturday will go ahead as planned.

The EFL had set the Whites and Bury a 5pm deadline to give them the necessary reassurances that they could start the League One season.

Bolton satisfied the league's requirements and will head to Adams Park this weekend but Bury’s game at MK Dons has been suspended.

The Football Ventures consortium are trying to iron out final details to complete their takeover at the University of Bolton Stadium and take the club out of administration.

It is understood the prospective new owners have agreed to loan money from the Professional Footballers’ Association to settle with the club’s football creditors.

Talks have been ongoing on an improved deal to pay overdue wages to players no longer at the club.

Players still contracted to Wanderers have been assured they are to receive 100 per cent of the salaries – unpaid since March – on day one of the new ownership.

The sticking point has been the offer extended to former players to have their overdue wages paid in instalments, which was rejected.

“At its meeting today, the EFL Board was appraised of the position in regard to the outstanding information requested in respect of ongoing matters at Bolton Wanderers,” the EFL statement read.

“The Board has fully considered the club’s further submissions and is satisfied that they are sufficient to meet the requirements of the league subject to the completion of formal documentation.

“As a result the EFL Board has opted not to suspend their opening day fixture with Wycombe Wanderers and it will remain as originally scheduled on Saturday 3 August 2019 at 3pm.”
