DOZENS of people attended a summer event which featured an exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of council housing.

Six Town Housing hosted the first of their annual Summer Roadshow events on Red Bank Field.

This year's roadshow featured an exhibition of council housing memories, some contributed by tenants, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of council housing.

About 170 people turned out for the occasion, which featured a bouncy castle, face painting, reptile handling and various competitions. Visitors could also pick up DIY tips, report repairs and access other services.

The Mayor of Bury, Cllr Trevor Holt, gave a speech at the event on Tuesday, July 23.

Various stalls were also set up to give visitors the chance to find out about services and community initiatives.

Representations from Bury Council’s Older People Staying Well team, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, gas contractor SURE and painting contractor BAAS, who ran a decorating workshop, were all in attendance.

Red Bank Tenant and Residents Association and Corrie Gardeners also hosted a tuck shop and plant stall.

Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive of Six Town Housing, said: “Our Roadshow provides fun days out for local people, while showcasing the great work of community volunteers and promoting a range of useful services for those living within our neighbourhoods run by ourselves and partners."

The Summer Roadshow visited Hoyles Park, Bury, yesterday. It is also due to appear at Victoria Park, Whitefield, on August 6, Powell Street, Bury, on August 13, and Venwood Road, Prestwich, on August 20. All events run from 1pm until 4pm.
