A CAR enthusiast is looking forward to commencing a degree in motorsport engineering after achieving an amazing set of results.

Bury College pupil Morgan Evans, aged 18, is celebrating triple Distinction* grades — which are typically equivalent to three A* A-levels — after studying a BTEC in engineering.

In September, he will begin his degree in motorsport engineering at the University of Wolverhampton.

Morgan said: "I have always had an interest in cars. I had the opportunity to see the Formula 1 live at Silverstone when I was 10, and have always loved Top Gear.

"I have wanted to go into this industry for as long as I can remember.

"Long-term, I would ideally like to be in a racing team, hopefully travelling, working with design and aerodynamics in some form."

The former Elton High School pupil has also attended track days and races, as well as some TCR (touring car championship) events, which have inspired him.

Morgan specifically chose a BTEC course to develop his knowledge of maths and physics alongside practical experience.

As part of his course, he undertook a dissertation project, for which he chose to design and create a pen, as well as producing a 25,000 word documentation about the making process.

"In the workshop I kept breaking my pens", Morgan said, "I kept getting bits of metal stuck inside them.

"I had an old Parker pen but it was too expensive to take into the workshop, so I wanted to produce something durable that I wouldn't damage.

"Every component of the finished product, with the exception of the cartridge, was made of brass."

He added: "For the degree I'm going on to do, the practical aspect of the college course has been really beneficial."
