AMONG the top achieving A-level pupils at Holy Cross Sixth Form College is Brooke Lewis, who has secured her place at the University of Bristol.

In September, Brooke, aged 18 from Heap Bridge, will begin studying aerospace engineering, and she hopes to inspire other women to pursue similar careers.

Today she received a fantastic set of results, including A*s in maths and Spanish, and As in physics and AS-level further maths.

The former Elton High School pupil said: “I was really surprised. I was so shocked at my results.

“Aerospace engineering is something I have always wanted to do.

“At high school, we went on several engineering trips and workshops, including completing a challenge to make our own scalextric car.

“We also had inspirational individuals deliver presentations, which made me want to pursue this as a career."

She added: "I also love languages and this degree includes a year abroad, studying in central Europe.”

Brooke is learning Italian in her spare time, and also speaks German. She also volunteers at the Brownies group held at St Stephen’s Church, Elton, each week, where she is helping members to achieve their engineering badge.

She added: “I’m a little bit apprehensive about going into this industry as a woman, but I’m really proud as well. I want to inspire others to do the same."
