A CYBER security event run by a Westhoughton business solutions provider is hoping to battle a scourge which costs British industry billions of pounds each year.

Eventura is hosting The Cyber Security Conference Bolton, featuring six well-known regional experts sharing knowledge with local business people.

The University of Bolton stadium event, on Wednesday, September 25, is free to attend.

Eventura, a growing digital transformation outfit, based in Bolton Road, is putting on a breakfast and networking opportunity at 8am, before a 9am start.

The six speakers include the company's own chief executive, Dr Chris Houghton.

He is a former Business Person of the Year award-winner at the annual Bolton Business Awards, whose company has attracted a cross-section of clients including Rectella and Floorbrite.

Other expert speakers are commercial lawyer James Pearson, from Brabners LLP, and a representative from American data backup and recovery firm, Datto.

Helen Williams, cyber security advisor for the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit will be providing an insight into current cyber threats and offering advice.

Fraud awareness analyst Hannah Regan and Phil Smith, North West Cyber Security Cluster chairman, will also be sharing their expertise at the conference.

Dr Houghton said: "Most businesses rely on technology for day-to-day operations.

"Cyber attacks cost the UK economy over £29 billion each year.

"We chose to host this event to help businesses and individuals learn how to better protect themselves online.

"Our guest speakers are from a range of industries and offer great advice, which goes to show just how widespread cyber risks are and how deeply they can impact on business.”

The organisers say that pre-booking is essential and are asking would-be delegates to go online to eventura.com/csc2019 for places.
