RESIDENTS of an East Lancashire borough can now apply for grants to install home insulation and brand new A-rated boilers.

Rossendale Council has pledged £50,000 to the Affordable Warmth Grant scheme run by Community Interest Company YES Energy Solutions.

The not-for-profit organsaion can also get top-up grants or some householders from a separate government fund.

The means-tested scheme provides cash for first-time central heating, boiler upgrades, radiator repairs and gas fire replacements, loft and cavity wall insulation.

It is focussed on helping vulnerable residents in Rossendale at risk of fuel poverty as a result of poor insulation and heating causing high energy bills.

Cllr Steve Hughes, Rossendale Council's communities boss, said: “This scheme will help Rossendale residents cut the amount of money they spend on energy bills which will ease financial pressures and improve the comfort of their homes. By supporting householders with our grant, we are hoping to make homes warm and cosy."
