A CAR crashed into a house in Deane, causing a gas leak.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm today, in Bushell Street.

A Ford Focus crashed into the the front of the house, causing damage to the external gas supply.

Nearby residents were also evacuated for safety reasons while the gas company and building control ran checks.

Police, two fire appliances, and a specialist Hazmat officer attended.

Martin Finch, watch manager at Bolton Central Community Fire Station said: "We attended an RTC in Bushell Street, just off Deane Church Lane.

"We evacuated adjacent properties and asked Cadent Gas to come and isolate gas meter, and do a test on it.

"It's all been capped off and it tested fine.

"Building control also come and confirmed it is still habitable."

The driver, a woman, got out of the car before emergency services arrived and is not believed to be injured.

A resident, living on nearby Willows Lane said it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

He said: "I didn't see a lot because I couldn't get outside cause I have kids. I just got told the police had cordoned it off.

"I've complained about speeding on Willows Lane in the past. It's a 20mph speed limit and I've seen people doing 80-100mph.

"It won't be long before a kid gets killed around here."
