THERE will be several road closures in place across Prestwich while improvements are made this month.

Pre-planned schemes to resurface five roads are due to begin as part of Bury Council's £20million investment in highways upgrades between 2017-2020. Half of this funding was announced in the local authority's 2019/20 budget.

Diversions and part or full road closures will be in place between 8am and 5pm, while improvements are carried out.

Resurfacing works are due to be undertaken in Mount Road between September 2-13. These works may include footway improvements and drainage repairs.

Cuckoo Lane and Ostrich Lane will be upgraded between September 9-20.

Engineers will be working in Upper Wilton Street between September 9-15.

Lastly, Woodward Road will be upgraded between September 16-30.

Cllr Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “Our £20 million programme of highways improvements has included a number of major road resurfacing schemes across Bury and Radcliffe, and now it’s Prestwich’s turn to benefit, with these streets following previous work at Hilton Lane, Butterstile Road, Heywood Road and several others.”

A Bury Council spokesman said the above dates could change due to a number of factors including the weather.
