A B&B owning couple are offering Thomas Cook staff members who have been made redundant a free two night stay.

Husband and wife Graham and Paula Smith, originally from Walshaw in Bury, landed national fame when they starred on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun: Home or Away in 2010.

After being made redundant the couple unsuccessfully searched for their perfect property for over four years before getting in touch with the programme.

In the end the couple opted to stay in the UK finding their dream home in Windermere in the Lake District.

They have now been there for 10 years and have converted the Victorian property into the Lingmoor Guesthouse.

The kind-hearted couple are now donating a two night stay at the hotel to a former employee of the Thomas Cook travel agency and a partner or friend, free of charge.

They said: "Redundancy brought us to Windermere and to purchase Lingmoor Guesthouse.

"At the time it was devastating and we really didn’t know what to do.

"When we heard what had happened to Thomas Cook we could relate to how people must be feeling and wanted to do something to help."

To mark the guesthouse's 10th anniversary, the couple are also running a special promotion offering two rooms for a two night stay, between Sundays and Thursdays, with bed and breakfast, for £120 — the price the room cost when they first took over the property.
