POLICE were scrambled to an address on Sunday evening following reports of shots being fired at a property.

Officers attended the scene of the incident on Colne Road in Burnley, after reports were made that shots were fired at a property shortly after 9pm.

Damage was caused to a window but a police spokesman confirmed that there were no reported injuries.

Detectives are now in the early stages of an investigation.

On Sunday, the police spokesman said: “Police are currently in the Colne Road area of Burnley following an incident tonight.

“We were called at shortly after 9pm to reports shots had been fired at a property on the street.

“Officers remain at the scene and an investigation is in its early stages to identify those involved.

“Damage has been caused to a window, however there are no reports of any injuries.”

Residents on Colne Road said that it was unusual for something like this to happen as the area was normally quite peaceful.

Lancashire Telegraph:

On Monday morning, the window of the property had not been boarded up and an unmarked police car was parked on the road outside.

A number of community support officers were also seen patrolling the street close to The Prairie Pub.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "I saw a few people outside the house last night and then a police car came and sat outside the house too but I really don't know what happened.

"It's the first I've heard of anything like this in the area."

The police have not said whether any arrests have been made or if a weapon has been recovered.

Chief Inspector Ian Cooper, of East Police said: “We’re in the very early stages of an investigation and I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything or who has information which could assist to get in touch.

“It is only by good fortune that no-one was seriously hurt or even killed in this incident and we will do all we can to find those responsible.

“I would reassure people that this incident was not directed at the general public and appears to be a targeted attack.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log number 1411 of October 13.
