A MENTAL healthcare hospital is to create a 18-bed low secure accommodation and a recovery classroom.

Cygnet Health Hare was given permission to enhance the facility, the former Florence Nightingale Hospital, near Elton Reservoir.

Under its plans an existing building would be demolished and replaced the 18 bed low secure accommodation, the development of a New Gate Lodge, which would be the new security control for the hospital, as well as the reception and waiting room, The recovery college classroom would be a standalone building.

New car park spaces would also be created.

Graham Thorpe said: "Main element of the scheme is the provision 18 bed accommodation unit.

"Approval of the scheme will enable hospital to deliver appropriate and much needed care for users.

"We propose to increase the provision of parking on site by 56 places to a total of 278."

Cygnet Hospital Bury provides a wide range of inpatient mental health services for men and women including specialist deaf services and CAMHS provision for adolescents
