The ROYAL British Legion is asking communities to join together to remember the service and sacrifice of the men and women who fought together 75 years ago.

Tickets have gone on sale for this year’s Remembrance Concert in Bolton with additional tributes to those who have fallen in conflict at both the Annual Remembrance Service and Armistice Day Service.

The Remembrance Concert on Thursday, November 7, is Bolton’s thirtieth anniversary of this event, and forms part of the borough’s remembrance commemorations.

The concert will feature performances by the Lancashire Artillery Band and other local artists. The Act of Remembrance will be conducted by The Vicar of Bolton Rev. Canon Dr. Chris Bracegirdle.

It takes place from 7pm at the Albert Halls and tickets are £6,.ith proceeds going to cadet forces and veteran’s organisations.

The Remembrance Service itself will include a two-minute silence, prayers and hymns, wreath laying and a parade of veterans.

It will take place on Sunday, November 10, at 10.40am in Victoria Square.

Another service will take place in the square on Armistice Day, from 10.40am on Monday, November 11.

Other Sunday Services around the borough:

  • Astley Bridge- Representatives will meet at the British Legion Club, Belmont Road at 9.30am to march through Astley Bridge to St Paul’s Church, Newnham Street, for the Remembrance Service at 10.30am. There will also be a service at Astley Bridge Baptist Church, Eden Street starting at 10.45am.
  • Blackrod- The Blackrod service will begin at 2.15pm at the Cenotaph in Blackrod Cemetery. This will be followed by the parade to St Katharine’s Church for the Service of Remembrance commencing at 3pm.
  • Bromley Cross- A service will take place at Dunscar War Memorial at 10.30am.
  • Farnworth- The march will begin in Market Street, outside Home Bargains, at 10.30am. This to head down towards the war memorial where a service will take place at 11am.
  • Horwich- The town mayor will lay a wreath at the Locomotive Estate War Memorial at 11am. Followed by a parade at 11.40am from outside the RMI Club, Ramsbottom Road, which will proceed along Victoria Road toward Lever Park Avenue for a service at the Garden of Remembrance at 12.15pm.
  • Kearsley- A parade will gather at 9:15am at Kearsley Cricket Club, Springfield Road, before marching to the memorial at 9.30am. Attendees will then walk along Manchester Road to St Stephens Church for a service at 10.15am.
  • Little Lever- Attendees will meet at Mytham Road car park at 10.30am for a march along the rear of Fletcher Street and Market Street to stop outside the memorial on Coronation Square where a service will take place.
  • Westhoughton- At 9.40am, there will be a parade from St Bartholomew’s C.E. Primary School to the Parish Church of St Bartholomew. The church service will take place at 10am and then at 10.40am everyone will depart for the war memorial. At 11am there will be a service at the memorial followed by a parade back along Church Street.
