GREATER Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting and is inviting aspiring firefighters to step forward before formally applying.

Applicants will be invited to a taster day which will be held by the service throughout November and December.

Potential firefighters attending a taster day will be given the chance to experience what it is like to be a firefighter, meet some firefighters and undertake some role-related tests which will allow participants to gain awareness of the physical fitness requirements and the functional skills required to progress in the process.

Chief Fire Officer, Jim Wallace said: “Over the last few years we have been recruiting and training new firefighters through our Apprenticeship Programme, we are now delighted to be launching our next firefighter recruitment drive.

“We want to encourage people who are passionate about keeping the people of Greater Manchester safe." For more information visit https://gmcajobs.engageats.co.uk/LoginV2.aspx

Firefighter Jayne Jeffery said: “I’ve been with the service now for 18 years, when I get asked what I do for a living I feel extremely proud to say I am a firefighter.

“There are so many benefits to being a firefighter, particularly the shift patterns, which means I get to spend more time with my young family. I would recommend anyone considering a career as a firefighter to go for it, it takes a certain type of person to be a firefighter but that person could be you!”

If you're interested in a career in the fire service and are over 18 years old, then you can submit your expression of interest here.
