BLACKBURN’S St Silas' Church was packed this week to give thanks for the transformation of its historic parish rooms by the BBC DIY SOS team.

They turned them into supported living accommodation for 16 to 18 year olds for charity Nightsafe.

The ground-breaking work featured in a Children in Need Special broadcast last Wednesday.

Bishop of Burnley, the Rt Rev. Philip North who led the service, said: “DIY SOS was one of the most moving and powerful programmes I have ever seen. This has been a fantastic project from start to finish and it’s brilliant to be bringing it to a conclusion tonight.”

Nightsafe chief executive Jan Larkin said: “The transformation is absolutely amazing. It’s more than we could have ever hoped for.”
