MAGISTRATES have fined a man £250 after he admitted being drunk and disorderly in New Lane, Breightmet, on November 2.

Bolton magistrates heard how police were called to assist paramedics, who had found 26-year-old Matthew Williams passed out on the pavement.

“But when they made some checks on him he became aggressive, ran into the road, smashing a glass bottle. He was causing a disturbance,” said Tess Kenyon, prosecuting.

“He was shouting abuse and was arrested.”

The court heard that Williams, of Rusland Drive, Bolton, has previous convictions.

He told the court: “I shouldn’t have done it. I had not been drinking for a while and I had a bit.”

In addition to the fine, Williams was ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
