AN OFF-LICENCE business and its owner have been fined by Bolton magistrates after they were caught selling illegal cigarettes.
On October 24 last year Booze Brothers in Tonge Moor Road was visited by investigators who found a range of fake cigarettes and tobacco products without the correct health warnings and packaging.
The court heard that the business was responsible for possessing nine packets of fake Regal and Richmond cigarettes and supplying 43 packets of cigarettes and three pouches of Amber Leaf tobacco without legal packaging and 46 packets of assorted cigarette brands which did not carry the proper legal health warnings.
The business was fined a total of £1,500 plus a £50 victim surcharges after admitting the offences.
After initially denying committing the same offences, the business owner, Seyed Mehr, aged 44, of Tonge Moor Road, change his pleas to guilty and was fined £975 plus £1,424 in prosecution costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
