A local singing group aimed specifically at people living with dementia and their carers is giving joy to its participants this December thanks to the power of music.

The Salvation Army’s Singing by Heart programme takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at the Farnworth church and community centre, located on Brackley Street, with the next session taking place on Wednesday, December 4.

‘A glad heart makes a cheerful face’ is the motto of the singing group as people living with dementia can often feel vulnerable and isolated, whilst their carers can feel in need of reassurance and support.

Lorraine Meacher, leader of the Singing by Heart programme at the Farnworth church and community centre said: “The aim of the group is to bring joy and happiness to those living with dementia and indeed their carers who can find themselves overwhelmed at times."
