THERE will be overnight closures on the M66 for more than two months, Highways England has announced.

The motorway will be shut between Junction 1 for Bury and Ramsbottom, and Junction 2 for Bury and Heywood while a safety barrier is replaced.

Work is due to begin early next week, continuing until February 28, 2020. The closures will be in place between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday.

A letter sent to residents reads: "The work is essential to ensure we keep the network safe and operational.

"To minimise disruption for our customers, we will also carry out carriageway and drainage repairs at the same time. This will include replacement of road markings.

"For safety purposes, full closures are required on the M66 between Junction 2 and the A56. This will be carried out in various phases and only one side of the carriageway will be closed at a time. Associated slip road closures will also be required and diversions will be in place.

"These works will inevitably generate some noise and disruption and we'd like to apologise in advance for any disturbance."
