One resident caught the dramatic moment a bus went up in flames in Bolton.

The Diamond bus caught fire on Chorley New Road near the junction with Devonshire Road shortly after 4.20pm on Saturday.

It is believed that the bus was part of the 575 service to Horwich, and the route has been diverted down Victoria Road and Chorley Old Road as emergency services work at the scene.

Ben Grimes saw the fire after hearing a bang from his home on Albert Road.

The Bolton News:

He said: "I was sat in my flat and heard a loud bang which I thought was a firework going off.

"Around 5 mins later I got up to make a brew and saw all of the black smoke.

"I walked down to Chorley New Road and saw [fire crews] tackling the pretty large blaze."

It is believed that there were two passengers on board at the time, and both have escaped safely alongside the driver.

The fire appears to have been extinguished, but crews from Bolton North remain on scene.

The Bolton News:

Mr Grimes took his first photo of the blaze at 4.32pm, and the fire was extinguished by 4.49pm.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have been approached for comment.
