A NEW supermarket is set to open its doors in Whitefield.

The new Aldi store will open in Higher Lane at 8am on January 23.

It will be located on the site of the town's former Aldi which has been redeveloped and expanded to boast 1,254 sqm of retail space and will bring a host of new jobs.

Tessa Atkinson, the new store's manager, said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store on Higher Lane. It’s set to be a special day."

Among the features of the new store will be large chillers and freezers stocking British meat products, a "Food to Go" section at the front of the store, a selection of beers, wines and spirits on the back wall; and a health and beauty products section.

The superstore will also be offering the retailer's Specially Selected Range, fresh meat and Super 6 fruit and vegetable offers, and weekly special buys — from electrical items to garden tools.

A special grand opening event will be held on January 23 with Olympic Gold medalist and Lancashire cycling star, Steven Burke, and Ms Atkinson cutting the ribbon.

Exclusive offers will be available on the opening day and the first 30 customers will receive a complimentary bag of fruit and vegetables.

Mr Burke said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its endless support of Team GB.”

The new Aldi store is additionally calling on Bury charities and foodbanks to register with community engagement platform Neighbourly to receive regular donations of surplus food.

Any charities seeking to partner up with Aldi can email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The supermarket will be open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
