An incident on the M60 is causing over an HOUR of delays.

Two broken down vehicles on the anti-clockwise carriageway near the Clifton interchange have caused travel chaos for commuters.

Two lanes have been closed off to deal with the incident, and the recovery vehicle is making its way to the scene but isn't expected to arrive until 9am.

North West Motorway Police tweeted shortly after 7.45am to say: "Report of a HGV broken down in lane 1 between junction 16 and 15 on the M60, unable to tow off due to brakes locked,

"Also car broken down lane 2 a bit further on all traffic being held at moment"

Twenty minutes later, Highways England tweeted to say the seven miles of congestion were causing delays of over an hour.

Traffic is backed up to junction 19 of the M62 for Heywood, and routes approaching the M60, such as the A56 Bury New Road at Whitefield.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead or find a different route.
