ATHERTON LR slipped to third-bottom in the North West Counties League First Division North after their 2-0 defeat at home to Nelson.

The Admirals edged a scrappy match with the opening goal coming on the stroke of half time and a second to seal their three points 10 minutes into the second half.

LR will hope to cause an upset this Saturday, as they host table toppers Lower Breck at Crilly Park.

Daisy Hill’s match at Steeton was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They will head for St Helens Town this Saturday.

The day’s big winners were Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division leaders Old Boltonians, who poured more misery on Thornleigh’s disappointing season, running out 12-1 winners in their derby at Castle Hill.

Old Bolts had three hat-trick scorers in the game, Joe Johnson, Leon Farrimond and Lucas Gaynor. Matt McClellan weighed in with two goals and Nick Collins also scored in an emphatic win for Steve Eccleshare’s side.

Results elsewhere also went Old Bolts’ way, as second-placed Failsworth Dynamos lost at home to Mostonians and Old Mancunians in third were held to a draw by Burnley Belvedere.

Little Lever’s resurgence continued with a 2-0 win at Valley United, their fourth victory in five games. Josh Hill and Scott Bingham were on target for Little Lever, who sit ninth ahead of this weekend’s hosting of Failsworth.

Bolton Wyresdale suffered a 4-1 loss at home to Old Blackburnians, Simon Griffiths’ goal providing their only highlight of the day. They will hope for better luck when they travel to reigning champions Whitworth Valley this Saturday.

In Division One, Blackrod Town won 2-1 at Ashtonians but Horwich RMI’s fixture at home to Tottington was postponed.

In the West Lancashire League, the Premier Division derby between Tempest United and CMB ended honours even.

After a goalless first half hosts Tempest took the lead five minutes into the second half through Nathan Monson.

But CMB grabbed a share of the spoils with Scott McNair’s equaliser 15 minutes later.

Turton were 2-1 winners at home to Burscough Richmond, Dylan Winstanley scoring the winner nine minutes from time after Danny Locke’s goal had been cancelled out shortly before the break. Mark Truffas’ penalty was enough for Stoneclough to win their Division One match at Millom, but Eagley and Horwich St Mary’s Victoria were forced to sit out the weekend, their games at Haslingden St Mary’s and Croston Sports Club respectively being postponed.

In the Manchester League Premier Division Bolton County sit fourth after their 1-0 win at Heyside, Tom Axon-Smith hitting the game’s only goal.

Atherton Town stay top of Division One following their 4-1 victory over visitors Moorside Rangers.

Gareth Shaw netted twice, with Connor Critchley and Calam Williamson also scoring for Atherton, who host a top-versus-bottom clash against Leigh Athletic this weekend.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club lost 3-2 at Govan Athletic, their goals coming from Nathan Coyne and Luke Howarth.

Bolton United remain top of Division Two despite their trip to Hindley Juniors being postponed. However, their nearest challengers, Rochdale Sacred Heart reserves, did cut the lead to six points with a win against Monton.

Breightmet United remain bottom of the table as they lost 5-0 at Hindsford reserves.
