A NEW restaurant is set to open in Bury as a Chinese chain gets the go ahead to move in.

Oodles Chinese is expected to start refurbishing the empty premises in Walmersley Road imminently as plans to use a former graphic design shop as a restaurant have been approved.

The 38-seat restaurant will open after an "extensive" refurbishment of the shop which has been empty for around a year.

But planning permission to turn the shop into a hot food takeaway was refused back in July because of concerns over illegal parking in the area.

Since then, plans for a pay and display car park being developed to the south of the site have been approved.

Chris Grieves, director of PREL Ltd which owns the building, told the planning committee that the company has not been able to find anyone who wants to use the property aside from restaurants.

Under the latest plans, the first floor of the building would remain vacant.

The plans also include installing a new aluminium framed shopfront, a flue and four condensing units at the rear of the building.

The planning committee voted to approve the application at a town hall meeting on Tuesday evening.
