THE sight of cards displaying jobs available in the Bolton area will bring back memories for anyone who went along to the town’s Jobcentre in the late Eighties.

For anyone looking for work, the Jobcentre, based in Elizabeth House when these pictures were taken in 1988, became almost a daily ritual for job seekers who would scan the boards to see if anything new - and suitable - had arrived.

The boards were divided into sections to make it easier for you to look for the jobs best suited to your qualifications and areas of expertise.

Those on unemployment benefit were sent to the Jobcentre by the unemployment benefit office - in the 1980s the two were kept separate. The Jobcentre advertised vacancies but did not process claims.
