A SCHOOL reunion is being organised for former pupils of the Derby School in Bury.

The event is for those who left the Radcliffe Road school in June 1980, to reconnect with old friends from 40 years ago.

The Derby High School opened in September 1959 as the Derby Grammar School, offering both a grammar and a technical education. The new school was a merger of Bury High School, a Grammar School on nearby Parliament Street, which closed when the Derby opened, and Bury Junior Technical School.

It was still a grammar school in the 70s, drawing students from across the Bury borough, including Radcliffe and Prestwich.

The reunion will take place in May 2020, with further details due to be announced at a later date. It will be a chance for ex-pupils to reminisce together about school events, clubs, sports teams and trips to the school house, Lowfield, in Coniston, Lake District.
