A NEW Aldi store has finally been opened in Whitefield and its first customer was a special guest.

Olympic Gold Medallist, Steven Burke, cut the all-important red ribbon to officially open the new Aldi store in Whitefield this morning.

The Higher Lane store will be run by manager Tessa Atkinson along with a team of 28 colleagues.

As part of Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh campaign Mr Burke gave away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.

The new store will offer large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, British meat products, a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store, a fixture along the back wall showcasing Aldi’s award-winning Beers, Wines and Spirits, and an exclusive section full of Health & Beauty products.

Customers visiting the store can take advantage of Aldi’s famous Specialbuys, which are available every Thursday and Sunday. During opening week, the store will be offering a range of tools and storage to kit out the workshop, including a 4-in-1 cordless screwdriver for £19.99, an 18-vault combi drill for £39.99 and a selection of metal spray paints from £2.99, in time for a spring spruce up.

Store Manager, Tessa Atkinson, said: “It’s been a fantastic morning here at our grand opening. It was lovely to meet our new customers and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks. I’d also like to say a big thank you to the wonderful Steven Burke for being a part of our celebrations.”

Team GB star, Steven Burke, added: “It’s been an honour to be a part of Aldi’s store opening. I’ve had a great time talking to both the adults and children of Whitefield about healthy eating and my experience of the Olympics.”

The new store is located at Higher Lane, Whitefield, M45 7EA and is open: Monday - Saturday from 8am-10pm and Sunday from 10am- 4pm.
