POLICE have issued a warning after a spate of number plate thefts across Bury.
Officers have advised motorists to fit security screws on their number plates to safeguard against theft
Police said that stolen number plates are the "easiest" way to change the identity of a stolen vehicle or to avoid speeding tickets.
Greater Manchester Police's Bury North team tweeted: "Recently we have had a spate of number plate thefts in the Bury area. This is because the easiest way to change the identity of a stolen vehicle or avoid speeding tickets and parking tickets is to fit stolen number plates.
"Using security screws to attach your vehicle’s number plates makes it harder for thieves to get your number. You can purchase security screws online or on the high street at places like Halfords or other hardware stores."
