A NATIONAL road safety charity has launched a competition to get young Yorkshire film-makers championing proper practice when driving.

Brake, in partnership with Co-op Insurance, has set-up "Project 24" which will challenge 11-18 year-olds to create a film - of no more than 24 seconds - that raises awareness about a road safety subject of their choice.

The competition title comes from World Health Organization (WHO) figures that show one person is killed every 24 seconds on the road.

It is open to schools and colleges across Yorkshire, as well as community groups, and entries could include: interviews, animations, poetry, artwork and music.

Just by registering, teachers and leaders will receive free resources including assembly slides, filming tips and fact sheets.

Dave Nichols, community engagement manager for Brake, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Yorkshire to show off their talent and creativity to inspire others to make roads safer.

"At Brake, we know that young people are passionate about improving road safety and speaking out about the dangers they face.

"I would encourage anyone aged 11-18 to enter Project24, and we look forward to seeing their work."

The best films will make it onto Brake's website and social media channels, showcasing Yorkshire's talent across the world.

Winners will also receive prizes for themselves and for their schools - this includes a special awards reception.

The final date for entries is 4pm on Friday, April 3.

Winners will be announced in May.
