POLICE are warning motorists with keyless car entry to purchase a special pouch to block the signal used by thieves.

PS Jon Evans posted on the GMP Trafford North page saying that over the course of the week there have been no reported burglaries or attempt burglaries in the Trafford area.

He said: "On Thursday at around 1:30 am officers responded to the report of suspicious males with their faces covered on a driveway on Ambleside Road, Flixton.

"Officers were on scene moments later and the males involved starburst into different direction.

"Luckily one of our Police Dog Handlers was on scene and tracked the offender who had hidden under a car on Western Road.

"This male was arrested on suspicion of Attempt Theft of Motor Vehicle.

"Nationally there has been a rise in keyless car theft, please consider purchasing a Faraday pouch that blocks the signal that thieves are using to enter your vehicles.

"I would also recommend the old fashioned steering wheel locks, your car is going NO WHERE with one of them securing your steering wheel.

"There has also been an increase in the theft of New Models of Ford Fiesta’s.

"The New Ford Fiesta is fitted with a USB Port that is situated under the steering wheel column.

"Unfortunately thieves are in possession of devices that they can plug into the USB Port and can turn the engine on using the device.

"If you are the owner of a newish Ford Fiesta I recommend that you purchase a steering wheel lock ASAP!! I would also contact Ford & complain in regards to the poor security of the vehicle."

PS Evans added he would be attending a community meeting  St. Mary’s Church, Davyhulme Road, Davyhulme at 7pm.
