A NEW rocking fitness craze sweeping the country has landed in Prestwich.

RockFit combines working out with a rock and metal soundtrack and has proven a smash hit up and down the country with people tired of classes that don't cater to their music tastes.

Now the classes are coming to the North West for the first time.

Bury Times:

Leading the RockFit classes in Prestwich is Jenny Walker — a mum with a passion for exercise and rocking out — who recently switched her career in the NHS to become a fitness instructor.

She said: "RockFit is all about getting active and feeling good

"I have worked in the NHS in education and leadership all my life and recently had a baby boy, but I have never been superfit.

"If someone had said to me a year ago that I was going to be a fitness instructor I would have laughed.

"RockFit is open to absolutely everybody and people can just come down and have a dance to some awesome music."

Ahead of the big launch Ms Walker hosted a taster session at the Carlton Club in Bury Old Road where people could try out RockFit for the first time.

Bury Times:

Among those taking part were Gill Phazey and Vicky Barnes, who were joined by people who had travelled from as far away as Stoke-on-Trent to give the class a go.

Ms Phazey said: “I had a lot of fun and I think it was really different because a lot of classes are a bit samey in terms of music content."

Ms Barnes added: "It's a refreshing take on your standard gym class. Time has really flown.

"It doesn't matter what level of fitness you have and also it's not too 'rocky' — I was worried it was going to be like a mosh pit but it wasn't and I can't wait for next week."

RockFit launches in Prestwich on February 10.

Two sessions will be held each week on Mondays at Prestwich Arts College in Heys Road from 7pm, and on Thursdays at the Carlton Club in Bury Old Road from 7.15pm.
