A SCHOOL is looking to rock Bury this week as a cast in excess of 50 enthusiastic students are set to debut their pulsating performance.

The pupils at The Derby High School will be staging their very own version of ‘We Will Rock You Schools’.

The cast were inspired by the professionals when they went to watch We Will Rock You at The Palace Theatre last Thursday night.

Their progress in rehearsals is being followed and commented on by Bob Broad, the Musical Director of We Will Rock You; Sjoerd Van Der Meer, who played Galileo and Edward Leigh from the ensemble.

One pupil said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had an incredible time watching the professional performance on Thursday and I am so excited to be playing the role of Meat. I absolutely love the character.”

The Derby High School’s version offers students a whole range of learning opportunities encompassing all areas of the arts.

It is supported by volunteers from across the school who have been working behind the scenes to produce dazzling costumes, construct a sensational set, including stunning projections, and assist with stage management.

Another pupil said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved with the show. We have created such a professional performance. I can’t wait to get on the stage.”

A total of 220 primary school children will attend an abridged version on Tuesday morning prior to the production, which will then run for three consecutive evenings.

The school said that the show will provide an excellent vehicle for enhancing students’ life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving and confidence building.

All proceeds raised by the event will be channelled back into future school and community projects.

The school has invited the local community to purchase tickets for ‘We Will Rock You Schools’, which will showcase from 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tickets are available by emailing tickets@thederbyhighschool.co.uk or by calling the main school number on 0161 764 1819.
