THE Royal Air Force Cadets in Warrington are determined to show the community they are not just a military organisation.

Located in O'Leary Street, cadet organisers are on the look-out for new members aged between 12 and 20 to sign up and join in the fun.

Sgt Paul Warburton, from the Royal Air Force Cadets, said: "We are a youth organisation so it's not all about being in the military.

"It's open to anyone and we pride ourselves on that."

Being a part of the cadets is not a recruitment into the military, although some may decide to join later on.

Warrington Guardian:

The cadet experience is open to everyone, whatever their nationality, background, ability or gender.

The minimum age young people can join is 12, but they must to be in year eight at school.

Cadet volunteers say that it is the perfect hobby for anyone wanting to enjoy a whole variety of activities.

Paul explained: "It's too easy to not do something these days.

"We teach young people so many skills, it's getting kids off the streets and giving them these skills they need for later in life."

Warrington Guardian:

Cadets can take part in flying, sports, target shooting, adventure training and exciting trips, as well as earn BTEC qualifications and DofE Awards.

Officer Commanding Flt Lt, Alan Radcliffe, added: "The squadron co-exists at its location with the Army Cadet Force and Army Reserves, at Peninsula Barracks.

"The Air Cadet building is named Tedder House.

"Our location is so named after former chief of the Air Staff, marshal of the Royal Air Force, Arthur William Tedder, 1st Baron Tedder, GCB, who was instrumental during many operations of WW2 and a re-sculpting commander of the RAF in the years following.

"We offer many opportunities, with both aviation and ground-based themes, which help young people to develop as individuals and good citizens.

Warrington Guardian:

"Training at the squadron is delivered by a team of highly motivated and committed Cadet Force adult volunteers who give up their time freely to support the young people that we serve."
