A FIREARM caused damage to a wall and a window during a shooting in Whitefield earlier today.

At around 11.10am on Tuesday 25 February 2020, police say they received a report of a firearm being discharged on Coniston Avenue.

No-one was injured but a property was damaged during the attack, the force has confirmed.

An investigation is underway but officers claim that it was a targeted attack and there is no threat to the wider community.

No arrests have so far been made.

Det Sgt Andrew Wright, of GMP’s Bury division, said: “I would like to start by offering some reassurance , incidents of this nature, understandably, create concerns in communities but we do believe this was a targeted attack and there is no threat to the wider community.

"Extensive enquiries are underway so members of the public should expect to see extra police officers in the area.

"Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate this kind of behaviour so we are committed to identifying those responsible and bringing them to justice.

"I would, therefore, like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any other information to contact us."
