BOMB disposal experts have confirmed a suspected 'landmine', found in a brook near Bury, was just old industrial equipment.
Police and army ordnance officers were alerted after James Holden discovered a device while magnet fishing around Kirkless Brook in Tottington yesterday.
But an assessment of the metal object, said to be not much bigger than a Coke can, found it was not an explosive.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Today at around 12:20pm, police were called to reports of a suspicious object near to the Irwell Trail, Bury.
"Bomb disposal attended to make an assessment of the object. The object has not been found to be a viable device.
"GMP would like to thank those vigilant members of the public who reported this to police."
The site, close to the Tottington Lines, was secured this afternoon while checks were carried out.
