ALTHOUGH many people will be stuck in self-isolation on this year’s unusual Mother’s Day, there are still ways to celebrate the day without having to even leave the house.

Restaurants may be shut, but there’s no reason why a quiet night in with your mum won’t suffice.

Here’s how people in East Lancashire are honouring their mums despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Nicola Hartley, from Blackburn, said: “Happy Mother’s Day to the greatest mother and grandmother ever, Susan Hartley.

“Lots of love Nikki, Julie, Jemma and all your grandkids Luke, Emilia, River, Isla and Nicholas.”

Brittany Taylor, from Oswaldtwistle, said: “To the best mum I could ever wish for happy Mother’s Day, you deserve the world and more, love you loads, Britt.”

While some are sending touching messages to their mums, others are instead remembering them in happier times.

Pamela Greenwood, from Blackburn, wanted to remember her mum Shirley Monaghan before her heart attack and stroke, which now sees her unable to move.

She said: “I would like to wish my mum a very happy Mother’s Day.

“This photo was from my birthday last year, weeks later she had a massive stroke which she’s never recovered from.

“A few weeks ago she also had a heart attack and will be bed-bound for the rest of her life.

“She used to look after the kids and I wanted to write this message to show how much I appreciate her because she did a lot for me.”

Fashion designer Roxanne Halenko, from Great Harwood, wanted to send her aunt Sonia Halenko a message for being just like her mum.

She said: “For all that you do for us, it never goes unnoticed.

“You’ve always been there through the laughter and through the tears.

“Happy Mother’s Day, lots of love from Harry, Beatrix and Roxanne.”

Phone calls, video calls, virtual gifting and handwritten letters are all being planned to let your mum know you are thinking of her.

Daniel Cregg wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day Leaya Connell.

“We love you, thanks for everything you do for teddy, have a lovely day.”

Debra Walmsley, from Oswaldtwistle, gave a sweet and short message for her mum, Merilyn Berry.

She said: “Happy Mother’s Day, I love you loads and keep safe, from Debra.”

Victoria Crossland said: “My mum Janice Crossland is one in a million.

“Without her I wouldn’t have overcome what I have been through, she is a superstar and I am glad she is my mum.”

Cake baker and former nurse Michelle Davies from Burnley can not be with her mum Kathryn Smith due to self-isolation.

She said: “I just want to let her know how much I love and appreciate her,” said Michelle.

“I wish I could see her but due to self-isolation it won’t be possible. Still, I hope she likes her gifts and knows that I am thinking about her always.

If the virus threat means you are not able to go out, tell us how you are celebrating the day and send us pictures of your makeshift Mother’s Day celebrations.
