Top politicians in the borough have applauded the superb work from NHS staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

All three elected officials have thanked the workers for their dedication, supporting The Bolton News in a campaign to recognise our Guardian Angels.

Local newspapers across the country are joining together to raise money for NHS Charities Together and their urgent Covid-19 appeal.

Chris Green, Member of Parliament for Bolton West, is proud to support the campaign.

He said: “Frontline staff across the NHS are facing a really tough time but they’re performing fantastically and serving the local community very well.

"I’m delighted to see The Bolton News is highlighting their amazing work and championing their cause.

"I certainly will be supporting this campaign.”

The #ThankYouNHS fund will be used for well-being packs and gifts for staff, food deliveries and refreshments.

Travel and accommodation costs, and other items to enhance the well-being of NHS staff and volunteers will also be funded through donations.

Mark Logan, who represents the Bolton North East constituency, added: "Knowing that we have the NHS is knowing that we have the best healthcare available anywhere on the planet.

"I want to personally thank everyone working in the NHS, partner organisations, as well as pharmacies, for protecting Bolton's health.

"We are eternally grateful."

Nationally, we have seen community spirit thriving in these difficult times, with people supporting each other like never before.

Last Thursday, thousands of people left their homes at 8pm to express their appreciation for our healthcare workers, clapping to thank them for their unwavering devotion to protecting the public.

Dozens of businesses across the borough have pledged their support to the NHS, something Yasmin Qureshi has witnessed firsthand.

She said: "Obviously I would like to thank our NHS staff for all the work they've done over so many years and the sheer amount of hard work they've been putting in during the coronavirus outbreak.

"They are all working extra hours and don't all have the correct protective equipment.

"They are taking the risk to work for us and they've just shown how brilliant they are by putting their lives in danger.

"I know of a number of people who are showing huge community spirit, with Excellency Banqueting Suites offering fresh meals to staff, and Masjid E Ghosia Mosque opening their doors to provide end-of-life care to free up hospital beds."
