ROADS and roundabouts - including a stretch of motorway - have now reopened after police responded to reports of a concern for welfare.
Emergency services were called to the A56 and M66 this morning at around 11.40am to reports for a person’s welfare.
They remained at the scene for five hours, closing a number of roads and roundabout, including the M66 northbound between junction one at Ramsbottom and the Woolpack.
The incident was resolved shortly before 5pm, with roads reopening half an hour later.
A Lancashire Police spokesman previously said: “Emergency services were called at around 11.40am to the M66/A56 to reports of concern for welfare.
“The M66 is now closed northbound between junction one and the Woolpack Island, the A56 roundabout at Tesco in Haslingden is closed and a block is also in place at the roundabout for the A682 at Rawtenstall.”
