BURY South MP Christian Wakeford has braved the shave to pay tribute to a friend and raise money for a great cause.

Mr Wakeford lopped off his locks in memory of friend Simon Newton, who ran the humourous @politicaltrims Twitter page, and to support The Fed in Prestwich.

His efforts have so far raised more than £1,700 for The Fed, to help with increased costs the charity is facing due to Covid-19.

In a Tweet, Mr Wakeford said: "Well I #ShavedMyHeadForTheFed big thank you to all the donations woth raising over £1500.

"Want to pay tribute to Simon from @politicaltrims who’s idea this was and unfortunately passed away last night. There is still time to donate though."

He added: “The Fed is a fantastic charity located in my constituency.

"During the Coronavirus outbreak – as always – The Fed are continuing their work of caring for thousands of the most vulnerable people both in their Heathlands Village care home and in the local community."
